Race Team strain gage installation services

HITEC Corporation specializes in custom strain gage application or "transducerization" of your automotive component for various measurements and testing to enhance the performance of your vehicle. Custom load cells also designed and built to fit your specification.

NEW! "Shift without Lift" - shift linkage ignition cutout
This new strain gage based system replaces the existing proximity sensor found in a number of popular ignition systems. Using track proven and robust strain gage based axial bridge with an on-board amplifier, an aluminum bar is transformed into a cut-out switch you can have confidence in. The ignition cut out can be supplied in standard and custom configurations to work with your shift linkage and existing engine control unit (engine control unit needs to have shift without lift capability).

New! Custom Spring Coil Load Cell
HITEC now offers an alternative to the screw jack/top hat load cells for measuring coil spring loads for NASCAR™ and other vehicles utilizing separate coil springs and damping units. The original screw jack, helix and coil spring are retained, and load cell will not interfere with coil spring changes or other suspension adjustments normally made at the track. Capacities and dimensions can be customized to your specific application. The load cells are calibrated using NIST traceable standards, and output can be configured to work with the rest your instrumentation.

Basic component strain gage installation and calibration
All strain gages are kept in stock at HITEC Corporation for a quick turn gage installation and calibration to meet your aggressive testing schedule. From push rods and rod ends to steering columns and rocker arms, lead wires are attached to your specification. All calibrations are NIST Traceable, reported in units of mV/V. Components can be calibrated with reference load cells ranging from 500 gram-force to 100,000 lb-force and to 1,000 in-lb to 50,000 in-lb enabling us to provide the accuracy you need. Most popular connectors, including lemo and Autosport can be installed as an option to provide a ready to connect assembly.

Temperature effect on output and zero balance
Changes in the sensitivity of the strain gage and the modulus of elasticity of the transducer element with temperature will result in an output span shift. HITEC Corporation can provide a specially selected modulus compensated strain gage to reduce this effect to an agreed upon level. An unloaded push rod or other component will exhibit some output as it is heated, even with no load applied. This is due to variation in the matching of the strain gage circuit to the transducer material. HITEC can add temperature compensation to the strain gage bridge to reduce this effect requiring two calibration runs.

Strain gage amplifier option
For increased accuracy and repeatability we offer a strain gage amplifier option to work with your data acquisition system. Amplifiers have a 0 - 5 volt output and the gain can be adjusted to maximize sensitivity.
