Pressure Sensors
Pressure transducers provide an electrical output proportional to applied pressure and are used in a wide variety of industries for controlling and monitoring. Pressure transducers can also indirectly generate electrical signals for measuring altitude, flow, level and leak testing.
Important considerations of pressure transducer design include the mechanical pressure sensing
element and the electrical strain gage bridge configuration.
Strain gages are applied to the non‐pressurized surface of the sensing element to measure surface strains or strain gages can be applied to a separate beam, driven by the force input of a diaphragm having the strain gages measure the surface strains of the beam.
Linearity, hysteresis, repeatability and pressure range are all designed into each unique pressure
transducers along with various compensation considerations such as:
- Full scale output
- Temperature effect on zero output
- Temperature effect on full scale output
- Input resistance
- Zero output
- Shunt calibration
